We at IndoChili have a passion for delicious food at great prices. But we also understand that our customers are a diverse group with special needs. Keeping this in mind, all food at IndoChili is certified 100% halal by Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS).
But you might be asking what does Halal mean? And what is MUIS. Let us explain.
We’ll start with a definition of Halal. “Halal is any object or an action which is permissible to use or engage in, according to Islamic law. The term covers and designates not only food and drink but also all matters of daily life. It is one of five things that that define the morality of human action in Islam. Halal is often used in reference to foods and drinks, i.e. foods that are permissible for Muslims to eat or drink under Islamic Shari’ah(law). The criteria specifies both what foods are allowed, and how the food must be prepared. The foods addressed are mostly types of meat and animal tissue. The food must come from a supplier that uses halal practices. Specifically, the slaughter must be performed by a Muslim, who must precede the slaughter by invoking the name of Allah, most commonly by saying “Bismillah” (“In the name of God”) and then three times “Allabu akbar” (God is the greatest).”

The Majilis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS) is the organization that ensures the food that is advertised as Halal is actually Halal. Here’s an excerpt from their website: “The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) is the sole custodian of Halal certification In Singapore. Established In 1978, the MUIS Halal certification mark is widely recognized in key Halal markets such as Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries through Mabims and GCC Singapore Free Trade Agreements. MUIS Issues Halal certificates based on a set of systems-focused Halal certification requirements known as the Singapore MUIS Halal Quality anagement System (HalMQ), To date, MUIS offers 7 Halal certification schemes that span across the food supply chain.” (Source : http://www.muis.gov.sg/cms/services/hal.aspx?id=458)
